Dollops of gratitude

After last week’s existential angst, this week starts with a reboot - finding joy and huge dollops of gratitude.

We know that a practice of gratitude has a positive effect on our wellbeing - there’s a tonne of scientific studies to evidence the effect. And having used myself as a Guinea pig to test the impact of gratitude a few years ago I was surprised at how my perspective changed and as a person I felt lighter and happier.

I have to say it wasn’t an easy practice - I had a repulsion about the word ‘gratitude’, (I also have a repulsion about the word mindfulness) probably from its over use and over popularity.

So I reframed how I approached it and use a different vocabulary- I now write ‘3 Good Things’ (which often extends to a few more) - and sometimes add a drawing too. I’ve found this a much more enjoyable process which will also give me better odds at continuing it.

Do you have a gratitude practice in your life, have you felt the difference?
